Grand Tour Lockdown Online

Methodologically, we analyzed 50 first-person accounts from travel blogs, Reddit’s r/travel and r/solotravel, and semi-structured interviews with 20 individuals who were on or planning a Grand Tour between March 2020 and August 2021. Mobility data from the European Travel Commission provided macro-level trends.

When Italy imposed the first European lockdown on March 9, 2020, followed by France, Spain, and others, thousands of Grand Tour participants found themselves trapped.
