Volume 19 of DanMachi takes place after the events of Volume 18, where Bell Cranel and his friends continue to navigate the complexities of the Dungeon and the world above.
Without giving away every major spoiler, Volume 19 serves as the beginning of a brand-new arc. Following the massive "Syren" arc (Volumes 16–18), the tone shifts from high-stakes warfare to world-building and character growth.
The volume focuses heavily on Gojounou Kaguya , the elven former executive of Astrea Familia. While under the protection of the Hermes Familia, Kaguya is captured by Evilus. The terrorists aim to use the former "justice" adventurers as hostages or sacrifices to further destabilize Orario.
This volume is critical for understanding Ryuu's psychology. In the main series, she is often cool and collected (until romance is involved). In this volume, we see her raw emotion—her grief and her hatred. It bridges the gap between the smiling waitress at the Hostess of Fertility and the vengeance-crazed elf who massacred adventurers.
