This paper examines the emergence and significance of the "PS3 Megathread" within digital enthusiast communities. As the PlayStation 3 (PS3) hardware ages, it presents a unique convergence of proprietary hardware failure (specifically the "Yellow Light of Death"), complex system architecture, and the impending loss of digital storefronts. The "Megathread"—a consolidated forum discussion format—serves as a primary case study for distributed technical support, digital preservation, and the formation of institutional memory outside official corporate channels. This study argues that the PS3 Megathread represents a shift from consumerism to stewardship, where users assume the role of archivists and engineers in the face of planned obsolescence.
