Richard O’Brien composed the music and lyrics for the original 1973 stage production, The Rocky Horror Show , between acting jobs. Drawing from his childhood love of science fiction B-movies, comics, and early rock and roll, O’Brien crafted a score that was intentionally raw and direct. Collaborating with producer Richard Hartley, they infused the tracks with influences from Chuck Berry and the Rolling Stones, creating songs that were not mere pastiche but sincere homages to the music that shaped their youth.
