Her arc reaches a peak in 3x11 ( Single Fright Female ) when she is framed for murder and later in 3x20 ( Hot for Teacher ) when she has a complete mental breakdown in a classroom. The season begins with the introduction of a new threat, "A.D.," who is revealed to be Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish), a former friend of the group. Mona's obsession with the Liars and her desire for revenge drive the plot of the season. The Liars also have to deal with the aftermath of Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) disappearance and the secrets they kept from her.
