The most notorious event to bear the jail's name is the detention of three British-Venezuelan journalists in late 2025. They were arrested for filming the mass deportation of a Haitian family without permission from the Panamanian Immigration Authority.

"They didn't care about passports. They cared about who could pay. A $500 bribe got you a cot. A $5,000 bribe got you a bus to Costa Rica. We had nothing, so we had the floor."
