The name Rokukast is derived from the system’s core structure, which utilizes a hexaphonic (6-channel) audio bed. Unlike traditional 5.1 surround sound (which is speaker-dependent) or Ambisonics (which requires real-time decoding), Rokukast utilizes the "Roku Cube" model:

As the consumption of digital media shifts from passive listening to spatially immersive experiences, current audio delivery systems struggle to bridge the gap between standard stereo podcasts and complex, bandwidth-heavy binaural productions. This paper introduces "Rokukast" (derived from the Japanese Roku , six), a novel broadcasting architecture designed to standardize the delivery of six-channel spherical audio over standard IP protocols. By utilizing an object-based audio approach wrapped in a hexaphonic container, Rokukast allows content creators to broadcast immersive 360° soundscapes to mobile devices without the need for specialized decoder hardware. This study outlines the technical specifications of the Rokukast protocol, its compression efficiency compared to Ambisonics, and its potential applications in "Phygital" (physical-digital) museum tours and augmented reality (AR) storytelling.
