Food grain loss due to inadequate storage remains a global challenge, particularly in tropical regions. Modern silos often prove inaccessible or unsuitable for smallholder farmers. In contrast, the Ammakambi—a vernacular granary typically made of mud, wood, and thatch—has evolved through generations of practical knowledge. This paper defines the Ammakambi, documents its design features, and assesses its potential for revival in climate-resilient agriculture.
