The year is 1470, and the Ottoman Empire is at the peak of its power. Sultan Mehmed II, also known as Mehmed the Conqueror, has just passed away, leaving behind a vast empire and a young prince named Selim. The prince, who will later become known as Yavuz Sultan Selim, is only 18 years old and has just inherited the throne.

Listen to the dialogue regarding the "Kizilbash" (Red Heads). These are Ottoman citizens loyal to Shah Ismail. Selim’s motivation in Episode 1 is usually framed as saving the empire from internal collapse caused by this religious divide.
