At its most basic level, an .mcpack file is a compressed archive. If you are tech-savvy, you might recognize it as being very similar to a .zip file. In fact, if you were to rename a file from texture_pack.mcpack to texture_pack.zip , your computer would be able to open it and show you the files inside.
