New Tamil Movies 2020 -

The year 2020 was a watershed moment for the global film industry, and Tamil cinema was no exception. This paper explores the trajectory of Kollywood in 2020, a year defined by the COVID-19 pandemic and a subsequent paradigm shift in distribution models. While theatrical releases were stalled for the majority of the year, 2020 witnessed the rise of the direct-to-digital premiere and the "anthology" format. By analyzing key releases such as Soorarai Pottru , Master , and Paava Kadhaigal , this paper argues that 2020 accelerated the democratization of content, prioritizing strong screenwriting over star-driven theatrical openings and challenging traditional socio-political narratives.
