HSBC's security key system works by generating a unique code that changes every 30 seconds. When a customer attempts to log in to their online banking account, they are prompted to enter the code generated by their security key. This adds an additional layer of security to the traditional username and password combination. Even if a hacker obtains a customer's login credentials, they will not be able to access the account without the security key code.
