The episode smartly uses her as a mirror for the Woodstone ghosts. For all their squabbling, Sass, Alberta, Flower, and Thor have become a found family. The guilt is palpable, especially for Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), who delivers a surprisingly emotional monologue about the shame of being a coward.

The episode, titled "Sam's Dad," revolves around the sudden arrival of Sam’s father (played by the always-wonderful Dean Norris). The tension is immediate. We know Sam has a complicated relationship with her parents following her mother’s passing, and seeing her father show up at the B&B unannounced triggers anxiety for the living and curiosity for the dead.
