To hold a Game Boy Color cartridge is to hold a dedicated world. Unlike the amnesiac cloud storage of the modern era, the GBC cartridge was a physical talisman. The "archive" was something you blew into. It was the breath of the user, humid and desperate, attempting to bridge the connection between the copper pins and the console’s brain. The archive smelled of factory plastic and ozone. It clicked into place with a satisfying, definitive snap.
